Our Kancho 館長, Tenzen Gyalpo 天前.ギャルポ (legal name Richard Ray) , has been training in martial arts since 1972, dedicating over 53 years to mastering the craft and seeking out the top martial arts masters around the globe.
He has earned black belt and instructor level grading in various disciplines, including Japanese martial arts, and has achieved notable ranks such as Judan (10th degree black belt) in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu/Ninpo Taijutsu. His expertise extends to authentic Japanese warrior lineages, earning him recognition in traditions like Shisenkan Kobudo (Yondan, 4th degree black belt),Renshinkan Daito Ryu Jujutsu (Sandan 3rd degree black belt Shibu-Cho "Official Dojo Branch"), and Genbukan Ninpo Bugei (Shodan, 1st degree black belt). Additionally, he holds Menkyo in several martial arts, including Gyokko Ryū Kosshi jutsu and Kotō Ryū Koppō jutsu, each at the Shoden level.
Beyond these accomplishments, Tenzen Sensei has also trained as an instructor in disciplines like Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do, Kali/Eskrima, Silat, Tai Chi and others... He also has extensive training and grading in Judo, Brazilian Jiujitsu (sic), catch wrestling, Muay Thai and others... He brings versatility as an educator in the Jissenkan Ninpo Bugei Federation.
His journey into martial arts began alongside a deep commitment to spiritual practice; he resumed his Buddhist training at age 8 after experiencing a profound past life memory at age five. With extensive experience in Zen and mindfulness meditation, as well as Tibetan sutra and Vajrayana practices, he is an ordained Ngakpa Yogi.
His training also includes Shingon, Tendai Japanese Buddhism and Shugendo. While most individuals pursue conventional education and careers, Tenzen Sensei has devoted his life to exploring and penetrating the depths of authentic martial and spiritual lineages, always seeking new adventures.
His quest has taken him to far away lands, ancient temples and churches, and even caves and forests. He is a live long student and continues to further his training and education in his many varied interests.
